DescriptionOur one-on-one tourney was a blast to conduct last year and you can click on the link to check it out. Spoiler alert! The link takes you to the winner being crowned and the page has links to all of the match-ups.

So what better way to follow that up but to double the pleasure, double the fun and make it a two-on-two tourney, people! G’yeah! There are only four more days before the regular season comes to a close. Thankfully us hoopheads have two months of playoff action to look forward to, but fantasy play dies down in favor of baseball, golf and barbeque unless you and your buddies set up a playoff pool. So check back every Sunday and give us your ten cents for the match-ups we set up for you! Who will be the “Dynamic Duo” when all is said and done?

It’s the last week, and the DD staff wants to thank all of you faithful readers.  Hopefully we’ve been of service, and hopefully you’ve won some leagues with our help.  Don’t forget about us in the offseason and definitely don’t for next year’s drafts.  That being said, here is the schedule…

The Fig Cap: I know who my fantasy MVP is…

Eric Gordon IndianaI almost exclusively follow the NBA game when it comes to being a basketball fan. There are only so many hours of free time in a given week, and there is only one television in the house. Nonetheless, this is the time where interest in the NCAA in NBA fans like myself shows a significant spike upwards. Memphis and Kansas went into overtime, and with no NBA that night, most basketball fans tuned in.

Predictably, many sites are handing out their year-end awards and discussing the MVP, both in reality and in fantasy. Well, we’ve already done that here. So let’s stay ahead of the curve and start looking ahead to the NBA draft!

Baron Davis and his beard taking a jumperMost of us fantasy fanatics are in some sort of consolation play this week. After all, only two teams in each league can vie for the championship. How are things over in the “real” NBA? Well, the Golden State Warriors are playing almost .600 ball and are still trying to claw into playoff position. How’s that for a tough break?

In my league with family and friends, the teams in the consolation bracket battle for draft position next year. The winner of the consolation playoffs gets the first overall pick, the runner-up gets second pick and so on. It’s enough incentive for everyone to continue setting their lineups, and it’s enough of a prize that people take it seriously enough to put forth the effort. If you have a league with little GM turnover year to year, this is something you can do so that everyone can enjoy fantasy hoops right to the very last day, not just the finalists.

Perhaps the NBA should adopt a consolation playoff format and the winner gets first pick in the draft. This certainly would guard against bad teams tanking it at the end of the season.

(Editors Note: Apologies for the tardiness of this post.  While Brandon was punctual as usual, I’m late in pinch-hitting the posting of his piece.  Try saying that five times fast.)

Gilbert ArenasSo, next week is the first week of the league finals in most formats.  Hopefully you are still alive, and even more so, hopefully you’ve had fun this season.  For me personally, this was my best and most fulfilling fantasy season to date.  Take a long look at that roster, see what you can dump, see what you can move around, and take a look at who’s hot and who’s not, because these final two weeks are what it’s all about.  This week I’ll try and focus on guys who you may still be able to pick up.

Here’s next week’s slate of games (4/7-4/13):

The playoffs are here!  Put down your bracket and pull out your fantasy league’s bracket.  Now’s the time to buckle down, make no mistakes, and take home the trophy.  Make sure you check your team twice or three times a day.  Drop guys who aren’t producing: there’s no more waiting around to do.  Don’t be afraid to bench a star who is playing two games if you can cover his spot with good production.  And if it’s Wednesday and you are big in the hole, start streaming.  These are the strategies that win leagues.

Let’s jump into the schedule for next week (3/24-3/30):

The Fig Cap: That’s cute.  So is Lamar’s recent production.

Description In your league, two of you get the week off because of a hard-earned first-round bye. Four of you look to beat each other senseless in the first round of fantasy hoops, head-to-head action. The rest of you/us? Unless it’s a keeper league, or next year’s draft order is on the line, it’s close to check-out time on a lost season.

Just noticed that we now have 50 pages of archives. I have not been very active this year contributing to this site, and definitely regret this fact. Over the year, two of the original team have left. A lot has changed, but I am going to try to re-dedicate myself to this blog and our loyal following. On the horizon once the regular season ends will be our second fantasy one-on-one tourney, but with a twist. So once the fantasy trophies have been won and engraved, check us out here when you get a chance and see what’s happening.

In the meantime, I dug through the archives and found an old post I wrote about setting up a playoff pool. If you are new to the idea, it might be a place to start.

The GMs in my main league are going to try out an auction draft for our playoff pool this year. Keep reading if that interests you. Are you going to end up banking on a Celts-Cavs showdown in the second round? Maybe!
